What is a Website Makeover?

We live in a culture of instant gratification. In a 60-minute TV episode, we can watch someone's house get demolished and rebuilt from the ground up, decked out to the nines with all the latest furnishings.

A Website Makeover means different things to different people but basically, it is the same concept as what you see on those primetime makeover shows. I treat each makeover project as an individual exercise. During our initial consultation, we discuss things such as:

  • What worked? What were some of the elements of your existing site that you hit the mark on, that you may like to keep in your new site?
  • What didn't? Where did things start to "go south" with the design? Was navigation too complicated, graphics slow/poor, or did things just generally not work well?
  • Gap Analysis. What is missing? Was the initial design too ambitious and were pieces left out? Often times, corners are cut in order to save time but become glaringly obvious once the site goes live.
  • Fix vs. Rewrite? Usually a makeover is necessary when a website is in a state where a re-write would be easier and more effective than a "fix." Knowing what path to choose is important and it takes someone with experience to offer this type of guidance.
