Search Engines = Traffic   Traffic = Money

It's a fact of life: if you want to succeed in today's economy, you not only need a good website, you need that website on as many screens as possible. It's a numbers game.

You may have the flashiest wesbsite out there
...but if it's not optimized for search engines, you won't get very far.

The best way of getting the golden traffic is by ranking high on search engine requests. Sure there are other sources, such as forums, paid advertisements, and good old fashioned business cards--but the search engines should be the lion's share of your traffic.

For those of you unfamiliar with SEO (aka Search Engine Optimization), it is a flavor of marketing by which steps are taken to get websites ranked as highly as possible by search engines (such as Google and Yahoo), when someone searches for their "key phrases". It's a newly-emerging world, full of cryptic rules and hucksters trying to take advantage of business owners who are not yet up to speed on how it works.
