Uploading and Linking to files in DNN
...using the FcKEditor module
- Edit your text using the “Rich Text Editor” option (if you see “Microsoft-type” buttons on your screen, you are already using that option).
- Highlight the area of text that you would like to use as a link, as seen below:
- If you have a pop-up blocker installed, hold down the [Ctrl] button.
- Click the “link” button (red circle in the above screenshot).
- This will bring up the following screenshot:
- If you have a pop-up blocker installed, continue to hold down the [Ctrl] button.
- Click “Browse Server”
- That will bring up a pop-up as seen below:

(the colors may look different)
- Click the “File (A File On Your Site)” radio button. The lower-half of the window should change slightly and an “Upload New File” link should appear.
- Click “Upload New file”
- Click the “Browse” button. This will bring up a box where you can select your local file to upload. When you have selected it and clicked “OK,” it will bring you back and you will see an “Upload Selected File” link. Click that link.
- Wait a moment for the file to upload. You will know the upload is successful if the Browse button disappears and your file shows up in the “File Name” box.
- Click the “Use Selected File” link in the lower-left corner of the window.
- Your file will now appear in your “Link” pop-up. You can now click OK to finish the process however I would recommend clicking on the “Target” tab (as seen below) and changing the target to: “_blank”. This will help your users download/view the attachment in a new window, instead of navigating away from your page.
